There are many positive social and ethical impacts on people such as safer situations, safety of the pilot if the aircraft crashes, easier use and many other reasons, however, there are some disadvantages. An example of a disadvantage is the possibility of the drone malfunctioning, and being unreliable. This malfunctioning is very rare and does not usually occur unless in a controlled area made for testing drones. When a drone does malfunction, it can potentially be very dangerous. For example, in November 2013, a drone malfunctioned during into a training exercise and injured two people on a navy ship below on its left side. There were three hundred people on that ship, and the drone could have injured or even killed more people. These are just some of the ways that drones both benefit us and some of the issues that they could have.

The area of society that is affected by the social impacts, is the business and employment area of society. The businesses that are affected by the social and ethical impacts are the stakeholders which are affected by the IT developments of the  drone. The drone-making companies, such as The Boeing Company, General Atomics, Lockheed Martin Corporation and other drone making companies, are the main stakeholders regarding this IT development. The effect that these social/ ethical impacts will have on these companies will be mostly about how they make their product, how safe their product is, how the product works and does it work well, how much money will the companies gain or lose from selling these products. These social/ ethical impacts will also affect employees working on these drones whether it may be the marketing of the product, the finance, the designing, the engineers etc. There may be many more jobs opened to other people, or on the flip side, there could potentially be less employees needed to work on selling these products.

The main hardware and software behind the drone and how it works, using the example of the Predator UAV, is that it has a Rotax 914 engine which turns the shaft. The propeller will give the drone both drive and lift, which will be able to give the drone the ability to lift off, and the speed of up to 135 mph. The fuselage, the wings, and the inverted-V tails help the drone with stability. This drone can reach a height of up to 25,000 feet. This drone uses a multispectral targeting system which finds the target and locates by emitting a laser which is where the missiles will be launched towards, or will make calculations about trajectory and distance. The ground control station (GCS) sends out a signal to a satellite which processes the command and sends it to the drone. The drone then recognises these commands and carries them out. This is basically how the drone works, and the way it works determines how comfortable people are with the product and its use.
